What is ankle trauma?

As a member of the AO Trauma Foundation, Dr. Sharobeem located in Manhattan is fully equipped to manage all ankle traumas that you may have sustained. This includes but is not limited to fractures, strains, and sprains.

The most common ankle traumas reported are fractures and sprains. But it is also possible to tear or strain a tendon.

Ankle trauma is characterized by the following symptoms: swelling, pain, bruising, and inability to bear weight.

What causes ankle trauma?

Though ankle traumas are often grouped as sports injuries, they are not exclusive to athletes. Ankle trauma could be a result of something simple as walking on an uneven surface, tripping or falling, landing awkwardly, sudden impact, twisting, or rolling the ankle.

What is the treatment?

Treatment varies based on the type of trauma you have sustained. Some activity modification may be encouraged as well as durable medical equipment dispensed. In some cases, surgical intervention is recommended.
